Point Loma Homes & Neighborhood Information

There are several distinct neighborhoods on the Point Loma peninsula, one of which is Point Loma Village, in the heart of the peninsula. Point Loma Village serves local residents as well as those visiting to partake in the pleasures of the yachting and sports fishing industries. The hundreds of jacaranda trees lining the streets of Point Loma Village is a beautiful example of this community's beautification efforts.

Point Loma Homes for SaleConnected to Point Loma Village by the causeway is Shelter Island. Developed in the 1950s, Shelter Island (actually a man-made island), is under the control of the Port of San Diego and boasts hotels, marinas, dining establishments and public parkland.

Another neighborhood in Point Loma is La Playa, a bay-side residential area somewhat north of the La Playa Beach where commercial and military ships anchored in days gone by. La Playa is one of the most exclusive areas of San Diego. Real Estate in La Playa includes luxury homes with private piers for personal boats. The hilly area above La Playa is known on the bay side of Catalina Boulevard, as the Wooded Area, so named for the many mature trees gracing the locale; and on the ocean side, it is known as the College Area because of its close proximity to the Point Loma Nazarene College. Sunset Cliff is located on the west above ocean bluffs, and is widely appreciated for its panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Rounding out the main neighborhoods of Point Loma then, are Roseville, the oldest settled neighborhood in the peninsula, Fleetridge, Loma Portal, distinguished by streets that are named alphabetically for famous authors, as well as being in the direct flight path of aircraft taking off from Lindbergh Field; and on the northwest portion of the Point Loma peninsula, the separate community of Ocean Beach.
