Solara Lofts in San Diego’s Cortez Hill on Fourth Avenue, is a unique complex that was conceived as an office building in the 1980’s but was eventually repurposed in 2007 into residential condo homes. Despite the original professional layout of the building, the building designer was able to get creative with the use of space and functionality in each unit.
Many of the condos are “flexible” and are equipped with a custom sliding door system with frosted glass to convert the space and create some privacy and additional rooms with temporary dividers. In true urban loft-style, open floor plans and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows make the space look and feel larger. By virtue of being in Cortez Hill at a higher elevation, the views across San Diego are tremendous! Learn more...

Solara Lofts San Diego
Floor plan options for Solara Lofts include studio and one-bedroom lofts, one-bedroom units and one-bedroom units with the flexible space option, and two-bedroom lofts. Penthouse residences are also available and feature 12-foot ceilings. Loft square footage ranges from 541-1,700 square feet. Most units are finished with hardwood flooring, balcony, hardwood cabinetry and granite counters in the kitchen, stainless steel appliances, and tilt and turn windows, which is a rarity in San Diego condos. The windows open completely or tilt to the angle you desire to facilitate airflow. Washer/dryer hook-ups are also available.
During the conversion, the designer did not skimp on the amenities. The lobby welcomes you with a polished stone floor and generous windows that let in lots of natural light. The indoor spa is large enough to accommodate multiple people and can be used regardless of the weather or the season. The fitness center is furnished with cardio and weight machines, as well as a television. The loft theme continues here with exposed ductwork and concrete finishes. Separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, shower and sauna area also available. And, unlike most other condo buildings, there is a racquetball court for residents’ enjoyment.
