Residents of Columbia District condos enjoy easy access to both recreation and work in the form of the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, the Maritime Museum, and the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum as well as the Federal and County courthouses and the State Office building. The location cannot be beat for those working in government or in any of the other commercial buildings in the area.
As with any area, the neighborhood is better suited for some and not for others. The Columbia District certainly does not have the ambience and “neighborhood feel” of somewhere like its neighboring district Little Italy, but if you are interested in living somewhere close to your work, or even possibly doing away with your own personal transportation, consider living in Columbia, where the Santa Fe Depot is served by the Trolley, Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner or the Coaster commuter train - a benefit of incomparable measure.
Restaurants in the Columbia district of downtown San Diego are sure to please. The Emerald Deli Café, the Matisse Bistro, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, The Bay Café, and the Downtown Fish Joint are all dining choices in the Columbia District. Just north of Ash street, in neighboring Little Italy, many more dining venues such as Craft and Commerce, Mexican Fiesta, Petrini’s, Shino Sushi, Kappo, Nakamura Restaurants, Los Panchitos, Buon Appetito, and Pappalecco among several others, await.
