Ocean Beach Homes for Sale
Some houses are investment opportunities while others have been lovingly restored and improved. There are plenty of condo communities with one-bed/one-bath units just blocks from the beach starting at $225,000 or larger units with over 1,100 square feet beginning at $579,000. Buyers have their choice of proximity to the beach, age of the house, and single-family home versus condo or townhome.
Ocean Beach Activities and Attractions
Ocean Beach is a great community for tourists and locals alike. There is a myriad of bistros, markets, boutiques, surf shops, vintage and thrift stores and jewelry, pottery and apparel venues. Along with shopping, there are countless eateries with both casual and fine dining atmospheres as well as nightclubs and pubs. It is a real mix of shopping, dining and entertainment of all types.
There are a number of outdoor recreational options as well. As the longest concrete pier on the West Coast, Ocean Beach Municipal Pier, built in 1966, is open 24 hours a day and features a restaurant and bait shop. Along the Saratoga Avenue beach, you might spot boogie boarders and body surfers enjoying this stretch of ocean. Relax in Saratoga Park, the large grassy area adjacent to the beach and watch the action. A little further along, walk your favorite pooch at the nationally known Original Dog Beach, one of the first official leash-free beaches in the United States. It’s a favorite stop in Ocean Beach at the end of Interstate 8 and the mouth of the San Diego River. Also along the San Diego River is Robb Field Athletic Field. It’s fun for the entire family with numerous outdoor athletic stations like ball fields, multipurpose fields, tennis, basketball and handball courts, playground, picnic area, skate park, and adult fitness club.
Nature lovers will enjoy Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, a 68-acre regional park. Extending 1½ miles along the Point Loma peninsula's western shoreline, the park boasts spectacular cliff formations and caves, panoramic ocean views, and a native coastal scrub habitat. While walking in and around Ocean Beach, you might also meet up with the local flock of wild green parrots and Red-Crowned Amazon parrots. Ocean Beach has one of the largest urban populations of these exquisite, interesting birds.
