There comes a time in most homeowners lives where you’re ready to sell your home. Whether it’s your first house or your fifth, you reach a point when it’s time to move on. Of course, selling your home isn’t quite as simple as sticking a sign in your front yard and waiting for the offers to come pouring in.
It’s a process that requires strategy and assistance, even before it’s on the market. So if you’re looking to sell in the near future, here’s what you should do.
The Little Fixes
Obviously you’re not looking to do any major renovations on your home before you say goodbye to it, but some minor repairs can go a very long way in attracting buyers. Choosing a home is as much an emotional decision as it is anything else.
A few too many holes, scratches, and broken pieces are all it takes to put someone off, even if they’re simple fixes.
Look for scuffs in the wood, scratched walls or chipped paint, overgrown weeds in the lawn, broken light switch covers, etc. You might need to bring in some paint and drywall. If the carpet is really bad in a room, replace it. Don’t hesitate to add a new faucet or light fixture.
It’s not wasting money if it gets you a buyer for a better asking price.
Clean Like You’ve Never Cleaned Before
This might seem like a given, but it’s so important, we can’t leave it off the list. When you’re selling your home, it should be cleaner than it’s ever been during the time you’ve lived there. This just doesn’t include appearance, but smell as well.
As we said, home buying is emotional, and cleanliness and good scents can greatly affect how a person feels about something.
De-Personalize
When a person comes to look at your house, their entire goal is to see whether or not they can imagine themselves living there. If you have pictures of family and friends everywhere, it makes it much harder for them to do that. Take down anything that makes your house “you”.
